1. What are the Terms of Agreement to use the Jones Bread Photo Gallery?

Please read the Terms of Agreement before using the Jones Bread Photo Gallery. These are the rules by which we all have to play. As defined in The Terms of Agreement, we reserve the right to remove the photos and memberships of those who post banned material or images that are protected by a copyright. Additionally, we will remove the memberships and submissions of those who do not follow the rules of conduct as posted here in our Terms of Agreement and throughout the website.

2. How do I post a photo to the gallery?

To post images to jonesbreadphotos.com you must be a resident of the U.S. at least 18 years of age and an employee of Panera Bread, St. Louis Bread Co. or of a Panera Bread franchise. If you are not an employee, please click here.

  • To post a photo to the gallery you must register for a free account. This account will let you come back at any time to change and update all your photos.
  • Make sure your photo is either in JPG or TIFF format with the color set as RGB (not CMYK.) Your photo/graphics editing program should have these settings. (See the answer to FAQ 6.)
  • Click on the ‘Add Your Photo’ button and follow the instructions to post your photos. Make certain to submit a completed Model Release (PR/MR) form if your photo contains recognizable people.

3. How do I submit photos if I don’t have a computer or a digital file?

Maybe your friends or the employees at your local copy center have the ability to assist you in converting your original photos into digital files. Also, you should be able to log onto the internet at the copy center or library. If you are unable to submit digital files, you may complete a Photographer Release and a Model Release (PR/MR) and mail it with your original photo(s) for contest submissions to Jones Bread Photos c/o Jones Soda Co. PO BOX 61099 Seattle, WA 98141. Your originals will not be returned unless you supply a self-addressed stamped envelope. Do not send your only copy of a photo.

4. How do I upload the photo(s) to the site?

Once you’re logged in, click on the ’Add your Photo’ button. The next screen is a submission/upload form. The top box is labeled ‘The Photo is....’ and is supported by a ‘Browse’ button. Click on the button to locate your photo on your computer. Follow the remaining steps on the submission/upload form.

5. When and why is a Photographer Release/Model Release (PR/MR) needed?

A Photographer Release (PR/MR) is required with every submission. It gives Jones Soda the right to use your photo on labels, website and any other promotional items. A Model Release is required for photos containing recognizable people. For Jones Soda to use photos of people, we need to know that you've received permission to take their picture, and that we have received the rights to publish their likeness on our labels, website and any other promotional items. You do not need releases for large crowds as the danger of a claim against you and us decreases as the size of the crowd grows.

Online, you must agree to the ‘LEGAL AGREEMENT and PHOTOGRAPHER RELEASE FORM’ terms when submitting a photo. The PR/MR must be submitted via fax when an online submission contains people. Have each individual in the photo sign it. Include a description of the photo and a Jones Bread Photo Gallery photo number if you have already submitted your photo. Remember, for individuals under 18 years of age, their parent/guardian has to sign the form for them. When you have completed the PR/MR form, please fax it back to Jones Soda Co. at (206) 624-6857.

Photos submitted via USPS must be accompanied by a completed PR/MR form. (See the paragraph above for details.)

6. What can I post to the gallery?

You may post pretty much anything with the exceptions listed in the next question. The images you submit must yours – in other words, they must be taken by you. As for appropriate subject matter? We like cute kittens, darling dogs and bouncing babies as much as the next guy, but, we’re looking for creative photos with unique subjects. Check out our bottles to see what we like. Use good taste and your best judgment. Remember, your mother or even your grandmother might see your gallery submission online and wouldn't you want to make them feel proud?

7. What should I NOT post to the gallery?

(a) Copyrighted or trademarked material.

(b) Photos you did not take or artwork you did not create yourself.

(c) Porn. Did you find some spicy porn that you thought would look nice on your end table, and on the gallery? Don't bother. We'll put you and your porn in the dog house and leave you there. For good.

8. Eeeeek! I just saw some porn!

The Jones Soda community of visitors is huge and it is no surprise when someone finds it hilarious to post some porn to the gallery. We monitor the gallery regularly, however, if you do spot porn, please email the PHOTO NUMBER to info@jonesbreadphotos.com or labels@jonesbreadphotos.com and we'll zap it outta there as well as the poster for good!

9. What format/resolution is required?

Make sure your photos have at least 300 dpi and are at least 2.25" X 1.875" (or 450 X 375 pixels at 200 dpi.) Your file size should be over 150K. Good quality photos make all the difference. We have supplied you with three templates to choose from to get the size and resolution just right:

(a) JPG label template;
(b) TIF label template;
(c) Photoshop (Win/PC) PSD template

To use a template, open any of these template files in your favorite photo editing program. Simply erase or cover up the picture of the flower with your own photo. Save as a .TIF or .JPG in RGB image mode (not CMYK.) For JPG files, use the lowest compression (or highest quality) setting possible. High compression will make a smaller file size, but will blur your photo and we won't be able to use it as a label.

10. How do I resize my photo?

You can easily resize your image(s) in Adobe Photoshop, Paintshop Pro, Macromedia Fireworks, or a similar photo editing program without having to rescan all your photos.

As and example, pretend that your photo is 8X10 at 150 dpi. Open the image in Adobe Photoshop and then click on the menu: image> image size> This will give you a dialog box with several options including ‘pixel dimensions,’ and ‘document size.’ There are two boxes at the bottom: ‘constrain proportions’ and ‘resample image.’ The trick is to make sure ’resample image’ is OFF (unchecked.) Now, when you change the settings of the document size, or of the resolution, the document file size (shown at the top beside "pixel dimensions") stays the same. The object of the game is to either retain or reduce the file size. Increasing the file size will ruin the image quality.

With the resample image clicked off, you will only be able to change either the document height and width or the resolution. Increasing the resolution decreases the height and width and vice versa. For a Jones Soda label we need a MINIMUM of 300 dpi (roughly the same as pixels/inch) and a document size of 2.25" X 1.875".

11. Should I submit photos in color or black and white?

Have a close look at previous label sheets. You can learn a lot from the previously selected photos. For example, you may notice that the photos are all black and white. Now, you don't have to change your photo to black and white for us, but in the busy land of the photo selecting team, it can sometimes help us out.

12. I can't upload my photo; I keep getting the logon screen.

Please make sure that your browser accepts cookies. The gallery uses cookies to make your viewing experience easier and helps you navigate through the pages. Also, you might check to see that your computer time is set to the correct time (in some instances this too might "confuse" the cookies set on your computer.)

13. All the photos are showing up only in black... I can't see my/other photos in the gallery..

The Jones Bread Photo Gallery is a very popular feature and from time to time does overload the capacity of the server. What you may experience is that when the server is slow and your internet connection is not as fast as you would like, your browser may "time out" waiting for the photos to download and will only show the black squares instead. For the moment, the best we can suggest is that you try again a little later when the traffic is a little slower.

14. How long will the image stay on the gallery?

We will be hosting photos for approximately 6 months. Any photos older than that may be archived to give the new photos a chance to shine.

15. Are there winning tips from winning photographers?

Probably! It is best to ask the photographers directly. Here's a big technical hint to start. Two things: format and resolution. Look at the label and you’ll see it is in "landscape" mode (wider than it is tall.) Try to reformat your photos if your originals are in "portrait" mode (taller than they are wide.) Second thing, we can not print files with less than 300 dpi and are at least 2.25" X 1.875" (or 450 X 375 pixels at 200 dpi.) Your file size should be over 150K.

16. How do you pick a photo for the labels?

Photo selection is a very, very secret process. We have some experienced staff that have seen thousands of photos and have a knack at picking the "good" ones. They look for unique, creative images that meet the quality requirements. Watch for the images with the Staff Pick tags. We give them to photos we really like a lot

17. My photo has a perfect 10. When will it be on a label? aka – What are the votes all about?

We look at the votes to see what appeals to you – our customer! Alas, sometimes a photo that has scored really high either doesn’t meet our minimum resolution requirements or is similar to an image we’ve already run. In the end, we select the photos that fit best with the Jones Soda Co. brand. If you are unsure what that means, check out our bottles.

18. How many times can I vote for my photo?

Don't stuff the ballot box. That is to say, we encourage you to invite your coworkers to vote for your photo, but clicking multiple times on the vote button will not work. We do keep track of how many times each computer tries to vote for the same photo. If we find a photo getting too many votes from the same computer (IP address), we'll just reset that photo back to zero. It's the best way to keep it fair for everyone.

19. It says I have already voted for the photo, but I haven't. What's wrong?

As per the above point, we have a system in place to keep track of who votes for which photo to only allow one vote per computer per photo. We use the computer IP address to keep track of this. If you get a message that you've already voted for a photo, but you are sure you haven't, then there are a number of possibilities: someone else has used the computer you're on to vote for the same photo, you might be connected via a dial-up system where someone else has accessed the internet with the same IP address you're using (for example AOL users), etc. For the most part, these instances are very rare and you should be comfortable voting for any of the photos you wish.

20. How will I know if my photo is selected?

We will send an email to the user who submitted the selected photo. Please make sure your contact email address is up to date and correct.

21. If my photo gets chosen for a label do you send me a bottle? Can I purchase a case? Where will I be able to find it?

Sorry we really can't send you a bottle with your label on it. Instead, we send handful of sample labels so you can see your specific label. Photos selected from the Jones Bread Photos Gallery will appear on bottles of Jones products sold nationwide at Panera bakery-cafes. It may be several months between when your photo is selected and when you’ll find it in a bakery-cafe, so be patient. For those of you who may be in dire straights of getting a case of soda with your photo on each bottle, we suggest checking out MyJones, where for just $34.95 (plus S&H) you can customize the bottles to your heart’s content. You pick the flavor, you pick the photo and you write the text for the back of the bottle. It’s all you-all the time! Check it out at www.myjones.com.

22. How long does it take?

We want the labels to look fresh to our customers and yours so we pick photos a few times each year. It is a great honor to be chosen for the real labels and we take this selection process very seriously. Once images are selected, we have labels to print, bottles to fill, cases to label and product to ship. The amount of time it takes from when a photo is selected until it appears for sale in a Panera bakery-cafe is dependant on how quickly Jones Soda products sell at each location individually.

23. How do I delete a photo?

You can't but we can. Please send email to labels@jonesbreadphotos.com with THE PHOTO NUMBER and we can remove it for you. That goes for any rude or unacceptable photos as well.

24. I, ah, lost my password.

Start to Login using your email. The next screen requests your password. It also contains a link you may use to request a reminder of your password to be emailed to you. The password reminder will ONLY be sent to the email address registered for the user. So I, for example, can't have the gallery send your password to me, but the gallery will send your password to your email address. No hacking now please.

25. I'm stuck; I can't find my answer...
